Product Solution 4
Established Practice:
Current MOX gas sensor manufacturers utilize silicon MEMS technology to
- reduce unit costs in high volume,
- lower the power consumption,
- facilitate integration with modern electronic devices.
The silicon MEMS technology is feeding the demand of smart consumer products, such as air purifiers, clean air monitors and wearables.
The supply chain necessitates inflexibility in design changes and when made, high costs result. Moreover, their economy of scale business model has resulted in a race to the bottom to deliver low-cost but at the expense of quality.
McGowan Solution:
We exploit advances made in ceramic platforms to deliver the benefits of Si MEMS platforms with additional upsides but without the downsides:
- Low-cost manufacturing and simplified supply chains, meaning it can be brought in-house rather than offshored;
- High flexibility and speed in making design changes;
- Superior performing sensors due to a high-firing step conferring chemical stability, impossible with temperature-restricted Si MEMS.
If required, our ceramic sensors can be directly integrated with electronic packages by using a special backing layer. We can sell into low-volume, mid-volume or high-volume opportunities. We are offering therefore:
- sensors with improved stability and reliability,
- an integrated, efficient fabrication process,
- a much simpler business model.
